The Gathering Announces Crossovers With Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40,000

Magic: The Gathering is about to announce new crossovers with other popular fantasy features including Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40,000. Hasbro will announce the crossovers later today during an investor event, along with a reorganization that will feature Wizards of the Coast in its own division. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report that Warhammer 40,000 and Lord of the Rings will both na Magic: The Gathering, with Lord of the Rings get a complete expansion. It is currently unclear whether Warhammer 40,000 will also get a full expansion, or if it’s a Secret Lair drop, similar to a crossover with The Walking Dead.

Wizards of the Coast had a massive 2020, and then they earned over $ 800 million Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. The Hasbro division is on track to double its revenue between 2018 and 2023 thanks to a boom in its two core properties. While Magic: The Gathering found new popularity due to the growth of the digital Magic: The Gathering Arena games, Dungeons & Dragons has added millions of new fans thanks to an accessible rule and increased exposure in pop culture. The two brands have also had multiple crossovers over the past few years, with two books for D&D campaigns based on Magic: The Gathering settings and an upcoming Magic: The Gathering map set based on the D&D Forgotten Realms institution coming later this summer.

Under the reorganization of Hasbro, the new Wizards & Digital division will house the assets of Wizards of the Coast with an emphasis on expanding existing games, creating new ones and overseeing digital licensing. The other divisions will be a consumer projects division that includes toys, while entertainment will handle licensing, distribution and production of film and television content.

Several new video games will also be announced later today.
