The Ford F-150 police response pickup of 2021 hits the mark this fall

Ford’s new F-150 Police Responder has an old-fashioned feature with a twist, so to speak.

The pickup truck being chased may be equipped with conventional keys that can be removed from the vehicle while it is still running and locked in Park so officers can continue to use light and powered equipment without worrying about anyone using their truck driving.

This is one of the various law enforcement specific features on the bulk truck that will be in use this fall.

The F-150 Police Responder is available in a four-door SuperCrew configuration powered by a 400 hp 3.5 liter. Its four-wheel drive system has a full-time automatic setting that can be used on all surfaces, and the truck is offered as standard with the F-150’s FX4 off-road package, which includes upgraded suspension and chassis protection.

Interior features include heavy-duty upholstery and steel penetrating plates at the rear of the front seats that can stop knives and other sharp objects. The trucks can be ordered without a center console to install section-specific equipment or with a factory setup that includes a work surface.

Ford says the aluminum-loaded truck has a payload capacity of 2030 pounds and a standard towing capacity of 7,000 pounds that can be increased to 11,200 pounds with a tow package that includes a knob-controlled backup function.

All of the Big Three carmakers offer police versions of their pickups, but the F-150 is currently the only aspirationally rated model.

Ford has not announced plans to offer any of the F-150’s other power stations, including the hybrid, which can operate as a 7.2 kilowatt-hour generator.
