Fitbit launches 2021 with a handy new feature: doping blood glucose. The new feature will be available in the Fitbit app to all US users throughout February
To be clear, this feature is simply meant to track your blood glucose level; Fitbit’s devices are not equipped with the technology that can read the blood glucose directly. By the way, the ability to measure blood sugar comes on portable devices later this year.
Fitbit says the new feature is being added to make it easier for users to track how their blood glucose levels are changing and how it is affected by everything from food to sleep to other lifestyle choices. Users can configure personalized ranges, reminders and more. The Fitbit app then gives users a look at trends over time.
‘In addition to the ability to detect blood glucose, Fitbit Premium members gradually have access to the view of how often their glucose levels fall within their target range within a 30-day period, along with correlations between when they read and their levels also trends in this data, ”Fitbit said in a blog post. “Members can also share their blood glucose levels with their healthcare provider as part of their wellness report to provide your care team with more personal guidance for your care.”
Fitbit app users can manually enter their blood glucose levels or link their OneTouch Reveal app from LifeScan, which will enter the information automatically. Fitbit said support for other meters and services will be available soon.
A chronic excess of blood sugar can lead to high blood pressure, strokes and heart attacks. It is therefore very important to keep an eye on this information, especially for those with diabetes. Fitbit support for tracking is a great way to integrate with the other health information provided by the company’s fitness trackers.
The company notes that the new function for blood glucose is not a substitute for medical advice, nor should it be used to diagnose or treat any medical condition. “It is intended to help monitor and keep track of your information.”
