The European Union contests new sanctions against Russia over the crackdown on opposition leader Alexei Navalny

The European Union (EU) will discuss in recent weeks new sanctions against Russian officials over the crackdown on opposition leader Alexei Navalny, which team negotiates these means of retaliation with representatives of the bloc, a gesture that Moscow calls a “traction”.

Possible sanctions

Russia has been the object of multiple sanctions, mainly for the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the case of the appointment of ex-agent Serguéi Skripal in 2018.

The UE has advertised on multiple occasions the The immediate release of Navalny, who had been arrested since January 17 in his recovery in Moscow from Germany, was recovering from an assassination attempt on Putin.
