WASHINGTON Four people were killed when supporters of President Donald Trump violently occupied the American Capitol.
Robert Contee, chief of police in Washington, DC, said the death on Wednesday included a woman who was shot by U.S. police in the Capitol, as well as three others who died in “medical emergencies.”
Police said law enforcement and Trump supporters used chemical irritants during the hour-long occupation of the Capitol building before it was cleared by law enforcement Wednesday night.
The woman was shot earlier Wednesday when the mob tried to break through a barred door in the Capitol, where police were armed on the other side. She was admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound and later died.
DC police officers also say two pipe bombs were found, one outside the Democratic National Committee and one outside the Republican National Committee. Police found a radiator from a vehicle with a long pistol and a Molotov cocktail on the Capitol site.
