Things only get worse for Cyberpunk 2077. After a disastrous launch, which saw significant setbacks over the state of the last game, it appears that PC players have made the game disappear in their masses.
After the record debut that would simultaneously adventure 1 million players through Night City, the game lost more than 75% of its player base on Steam. The huge drop came less than a month after the release of the giant game on November 10th.
Steam statistics shows that on December 12, the game peaked at 1,054,388 concurrent players, just two days after release. The game has been steadily declining since then, peaking at just 147,788 concurrent players over the past 24 hours.
The high of the last seven days is a little higher, with 225.55 on January 2nd. Since it’s a Saturday, we can expect more people to have time to play games, but this is not a good prospect for Cyberpunk 2077. that these figures will continue to decline until CD Project Red announces a significant update.
Interestingly, Cyberpunk 2077 still achieves a positive review score of 78.27%, with 276,476 positive reviews compared to only 76,742 negatives. This suggests that this decline in players is not just due to the myriad problems.
Games will always see a drop in players after release, though the longer it takes for people to move on to something else, the better. CDPR’s last open world match, The Witcher 3, took three months to lose as many players as Cyberpunk 2077 managed in a third of the time.
The current rating of the game indicates that most Steam players do not like the game, even if they do not play it anymore. One of the criticisms voiced on Cyberpunk was how short the main quest was, in addition to the lack of ancillary research, so it could easily be that the fleeing players no longer had things to do.
Or they are just waiting for CDPR to start expanding important solutions and content updates, and then they will return to Night City. Because fresh content is always a draw, it is also the ability to play a game without the mistakes and errors that have plagued gamers so far.
A Cyberpunk 2077 patch for the PS5 and Xbox Series X is expected to appear in the next few months. This will not only promise to enhance the visual version of the game on the new consoles, but it can also give a new wave of gamers the chance.
However, CDPR still needs Cyberpunk 2077 to be flawless if it is to repair the somewhat damaged reputation that has been dragged through the turbulent launch of the game and other controversies surrounding its development.
