Olivia Liang stars as Nicky Chen in The CW’s latest remake of Kung Fu, while learning the martial arts in an isolated Shaolin convent.

The first trailer for The CW’s upcoming TV series Kung Fu has been officially released.

On the network’s YouTube channel, the trailer begins showing viewers Nicky Chen (played by Olivia Liang), a young Chinese-American woman dropping out of college to practice martial arts in an isolated Shaolin monastery. She later returns to her family in San Francisco to tackle the gangsters and criminals who are plaguing her city, while searching for the assassin who killed her mentor.

The series is a remake of the original 1972 series of the same name. In the latter was Kwai Chang Caine (played by David Carradine), who wandered around the Old West in search of his half-brother. The CWs Kung Fu is the fourth series that uses the name, following the original, the pilot Kung Fu: The Following Generation Brandon Lee and Kung Fu: The Legend Go ahead, in which Carradine Caine’s grandson played in the then modern 1993.

Executive producer by Christina M. Kim, Martin Gero, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros. TV, Kung Fu plays Olivia Liang, Tzi Ma, Kheng Hua Tan, Tony Chung, Jon Prasida, Shannon Dang, Eddie Liu and Vanessa Kai. The series is on Wednesday 7 April at 20:00 ET / PT on The CW.
