The Cubs trade Yu Darvish and fans are not happy – The Athletic

The night before Yu Darvish threw the final rehabilitation field of his painful and uncomfortable 2018 season, I was at Wrigley Field standing behind Jed Hoyer at a Pearl Jam concert.

While I woke up early and drove to South Bend, Ind., Hoyer, when the GM and now the president of baseball operations, said he would watch Darvish’s outing the house, probably also hangover.

I do not know how slow his internet connection was, but I believe I made the news known to him through text that Cubs coach Matt Johnson investigated Darvish in the second innings from the start. Darvish would leave the game on August 19 and return in 2019.

And now Hoyer must feel sick because he only traded Darvish in a deal that predicts a rough 2021 season and maybe after that for the Cubs as well.

As of this writing, Darvish is trading in a classic deal for the future to the San Diego Padres. The Cubs are back in the rebuilding game. They …
