The COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Alabama is giving 400 doses, and plans to double shots on Thursday

A vaccination clinic in Daphne on Tuesday distributed 400 doses of the Moderna vaccine, the first of its kind in Baldwin County.

The clinic, under the supervision of the Department of Public Health in Alabama, begins Thursday with double the amount of doses.

Jenni Guerry, spokeswoman for the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency, said people who visit the vaccine clinic at the Daphne Civic Center personally get a booking card before they can receive the vaccine. She said booking cards will be available on site on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The cards contain details about when someone can return for their shot.

The vaccination clinics are on Thursday from 09:00 to 15:00 and next week on Tuesday 26 January and Thursday 28 January.

Guerry said the booking cards are beneficial in keeping people at a safe social distance during Tuesday’s clinic.

“It was a way to manage the crowd,” Guerry said. ‘Today’s website worked beautifully. The traffic flow was only tight when they got their booking cards. When people returned for certain times, they were thankful that they did not have to wait long. ”

She added: “We are continuing the process, but we will also increase capacity.”

There are no costs associated with the vaccine, but individuals should:

• be 75 years or older

• be a member of law enforcement

• be a health worker

• be a firefighter

All persons receiving a vaccine must provide identification.

Patients arriving at the clinic will check their temperature before arriving on site.

Guerry said vaccines are available for snowbirds aged 75 and older. Baldwin County is a popular place for snowbirds from northern states vacationing on Alabama’s Gulf Coast.

She said that everyone who receives a vaccine receives a vaccination card that receives that the recipients must return within 28 days to get a second chance. Guerry said snowbirds, as well as anyone else, could receive the second shot in their home state.

“They can get it here, or they can get it back home,” she said. “But they need to take the card with them so that their healthcare provider can give them the stimulant for the Moderna vaccine.”
