Ahead of a series of rallies and demonstrations in DC next week that President Donald Trump has promised to be ‘wild’, authorities have released a list of extensive downtown closures.
The restrictions were concentrated on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6 around the White House and parts of the National Mall.
“The decision to restrict vehicles will be based on public safety and if it is safe, vehicles will be allowed to enter the restricted area if they are doing essential business or traveling to and from their home,” DC police said. said news release.

The protests are scheduled for January 6, the date on which Congress will convene to formally count the November presidential election votes, and where Legislative President Joe Biden will confirm his victory.
Trump continued to drive unsubstantiated allegations of widespread voter fraud, and on Twitter encouraged supporters to pack DC for the protests. “Be there, will be wild,” he tweeted on Dec. 19.
Recently, on December 30, Trump tweeted in all capital letters: “SIXTH JANUARY, SEE YOU IN DC!”
Last month, protests drew thousands of Trump supporters to DC, including members of the far-right Proud Boys, who clashed with counter-protesters. Four people were stabbed, 33 people were arrested and four churches in the city center, including two historic black churches, were vandalized.
There will also be extensive parking restrictions next week.
