The Capitol riots threatened to shoot his children if they told the FBI about DC travel, authorities say

A Texas man with ties to a far-right militia took part in the deadly siege of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and threatened to shoot his children if they handed him over to authorities, according to court documents.

Guy Reffitt, a Dallas suburb resident Wylie, was arguing with his son and daughter about his trip to Washington DC when he made threatening remarks, his wife told the FBI.

“If you hand me over, you’re a traitor and you know what’s going on with traitors … traitors get shot,” he allegedly said.

Reffitt is charged with obstruction and knowingly enters or resides in a restricted building or site. Investigators have located him after appearing on footage broadcast on Fox News and posted on YouTube, court documents read.

He told his family that he had traveled to Washington to protect the country and that he had brought a gun, prosecutors said. In the images of Reffitt, it appears that he is wearing a helmet with a camera on it.

When he returned home, he told his son that he had to “delete everything” because the FBI was watching him. He also said he “will do what he has to do” if the family reports him to the authorities, the documents read.

While his daughter was on the phone with a friend at one point, he apparently told her he would put a bullet through the phone if she picked him up.

Authorities arrested Reffitt on Friday and found an AR-15 style rifle and a Smith & Wesson pistol while carrying out a search warrant, according to court documents. His wife told authorities she believed her husband would not act according to his words.
