The Canadian Parliament voted Monday to move Justin Trudeau’s Governor to include the Proud Boys in the list of terrorist groups. Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democratic Party, presented this initiative, which was supported by unanimity between parliamentarians. The motion filed with the Federal Executive that “use all available means to lure against the proliferation of white supremacists and audio groups, coinciding with the immediate designation of Proud Boys as a terrorist entity”.
Founded by Canadian-British Gavin McInnes in 2016, Proud Boys is a group that recommends the use of violence, only accepting men in its tracks and exhibiting a nationalist, misogynistic and anti-Muslim force. According to the unanimous vote of the parliamentarians, Blair’s office indicated that the decision to include an organization in the list of terrorist entities should always be based on a process of analysis of distinctions in the field of national security services.
The inclusion of the Proud Boys in the list of considered terrorist groups in Ottawa (including Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Sendero Luminoso, the Islamic State, the Eelam Tamil Liberation Tigers, among others) represents a mayor monitoring his activities, Penal sanctions against their collaborators, activation of associations and an increase in information exchanges with other countries.
