The British variant of coronavirus has been confirmed in Arizona, according to sources

PHOENIX – A coronavirus variation first spotted in the UK has reportedly made its way to Arizona, sources told ABC15.

Sources warned ABC15 on Friday that the variant, which appears to spread more easily from person to person, has been detected in our state and that officials are in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about its arrival.

The state is expected to release more information on the variant at some point on Friday.

Preliminary data from the UK suggest that the variant of the coronavirus that was detected in the country last autumn could be more deadly, according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The evidence allegedly comes from the analysis of trends in the number of people dying from the British variant versus the old variant. The BBC reports that the new variant is apparently about 30% more deadly.

It was first identified in England in September and became the dominant tribe within a few months, resulting in more closure measures by the British government.

Earlier this month, the CDC warned that the British variant could become widespread in the United States by March.

Some welcome news is that some vaccines still seem to protect against some variants, including the British variant.
