Star Citizen has $ 339 million in funding and ten years of development, but no release date is in sight.
When lead developer Chris Roberts first announced Star Starizen in 2010 with a Kickstarter campaign, players were excited. Tens of thousands of people eagerly supported the project, of which nine pledged $ 10,000 while another pledged $ 19 5,000.
Star Citizen is now possibly the most expensive video game of all time. The bulk of the $ 339 million budget was funded directly by pledges and players. The lucrative funding spurred Cloud Imperium Games to announce Squadron 42 in 2015, a single partner for Star Citizen with Hollywood stars such as Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson and Mark Strong.
But the Squadron 42 beta has been delayed again. After ten years of alpha development, revered and furious players are back on Star Citizen.
“What a wonderful scam this game is,” a user on Reddit said. “Donated hundreds of millions of dollars with nothing to show for it.”

“The biggest scam in game history,” said another. ‘They are constantly evolving to keep the cash flow going because they know they will never earn again [sic] money when released. ”
Some Reddit users who said they supported Star Citizen expressed deep remorse. One claims he was one of the earliest promise.
“I donated in f ****** 2013,” said another user. ‘Was one of the first 11K. Never again … I wasted almost $ 400 on this s *** show. F *** them. STAY AWAY. “
Another Redditor said they entered a new phase of life during the game’s decades-long development cycle.
“I bought a $ 200 ship in 2015, when gaming was the center of my life,” they said. “Since then I have studied university, progressed considerably in my career, bought a nice house in an established area and had three more children.”
Star Citizen was supposed to be the crown jewel of the space simulator franchise. Unfortunately, fans of the game actually have creeps, deadlines and more ships to buy, but no hard release date.
Starships have become a major source of revenue for the game. Players spent millions of dollars to buy it. In fact, Cloud Empire Games once offered the Legatus Pack, which adds up to 100 star bars for $ 27,000.
$ 27,000 to buy stars in a game that is not even in beta yet. Just for comparison: you can buy a brand new 2021 Toyota Corolla for less than that – at market price.
Buyer must indeed be careful.
