The best gadgets from CES 2021, and the weirdest too

The strangest CES ever staged is now over. But no one will hit cabins in Las Vegas or fetch more than $ 1,000 hotel rooms a night today with all the cool gadgets they’ve been showing all week. This is because not so much new technology has been displayed. A big part of CES was a repetition of the previous weeks – and even months – of announcements. This made the all-digital affair even stranger! But there were still some cool things that made us pump for 2021 and some absolutely wild things that made us take turns laughing, shrinking, and just scratching our heads at the audacity.

We’re just going to see more things as the year goes on. Countless companies have been hinting at big news over the past few weeks, and with big competitive programs like IFA and Computex likely to take place later in 2021, many companies can keep their latest articles for electronic shows that people can actually attend in person.

While Lenovo has not tried to reinvent the 2-in-1, it combines an even slimmer design with a new titanium-coated bowl to create the thinnest ThinkPad ever, the new ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga just feels a little more special. And as someone who appreciates a good multi-tasker, the X1 Titanium Yoga not only has a 360-degree convertible chassis, it also features full stylus for drawing and notes, and updated specifications, including the 11th-generation Intel chips, Thunderbolt 4, and a long 3: 2 screen ideal for all types of productivity. The ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga is simply a premium laptop that is beautifully made. – Sam Rutherford

All Wi-Fi 6E routers

Last year, the Wi-Fi 6 standard promised to improve Wi-Fi speeds and performance in a busy network by using clever engineering tricks to increase the bandwidth of each wireless channel, allowing more devices simultaneously with less interference between channels can work. But it was rather a patchwork solution to an ever-growing problem. Wi-Fi 6E promises for a while future-proof wifi by introducing a new 6 GHz band to wifi’s existing 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The 6 GHz band offers 59 separate non-overlapping channels, allowing multiple devices to work with higher bandwidths simultaneously. (Think of 8K smart TVs streaming 8K content.) The best part is that older devices do not have access to the 6 GHz band, only newer devices (which would come later this year) that would ensure the new band do not immediately fill in the traffic. – Andrew Liszewski

Mudra Apple Watch Band

The Mudra Band is a strap for the Apple Watch that gives you the opportunity to control it with one hand. There are sensors that read electrochemical signals to interpret your different hand gestures. For example, you can tap your index finger and thumb to reject a call, or close your thumb to skip a music track. There is a lot of potential for these types of devices, in terms of accessibility but also hands-free convenience. And it’s not vaporware. The band is $ 180 and is expected to ship in March. – Victoria Song

Asus ROG Flex X13

It’s a 2-in-1 laptop. Yes, a true 2-in-1 with 360 degree hinges. The included GPU may work better (it’s just a GTX 1650), but the rest of the specs are pretty solid: a new AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS mobile processor, liquid metal instead of a regular oily thermal paste, and ‘ a choice between a 120 Hz or UltraHD 4K screen covered with Corning Gorilla Glass. For anyone who wants the option of a better GPU, the Flow X13 fits with Asus’ XG Mobile, a compact eGPU that supports up to an RTX 3080. The price of the two is expensive – $ 3,000 – but I hope Asus sells the Flow X13 separately or makes the XG Mobile available with other GPUs soon. – Joanna Nelius

I know it can be weird to be so excited about a fridge just because it makes a new kind of ice cream, but innovation in the fridge space has been pretty little the last few years. It seemed like everything revolved around screens or windows in doors, and it’s not something most people need or want. Good ice cream it’s something that everyone can appreciate, and although the Bespoke is likely to be too expensive for the average person, it’s the ability to produce good or pebbles, ice means this technology will eventually become refrigerators. If that means a fridge in four years from now can help me make a drink as satisfying as a Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper by Sonic I’m all in. – Alex Cranz

TCL XL Collection

For TV buyers looking for the biggest possible exhibition with the shortest budget, I have good news: TCL is going big in 2021. The company’s new XL collection will appear three 85-inch display models, including a 4K QLED powered by Roku TV, a 4-series with Roku TV, and an 8K QLED TV. Options! We do not yet know how much TCL will charge for two of these three, but we do know that the 4 Series (85R435) will sell for $ 1,600, which is a ridiculously good price for a screen of this size (and if you can wait a while, the price will probably drop closer to the holiday). Everyone’s debut monster screens are this year, but TCL’s XL screens are likely to be a tough one. – Catie Keck

The strangest gadgets from CES 2021

Razer’s Brooklyn Project and Project Hazel

Weird does not necessarily mean bad, and in the case of Razer’s two concept devices for CES 2021, Razer offers different methods to deal with the daily problems that people face this year. A hand Brooklyn Project It’s the ultimate evolution of a gaming chair, and even with the over-the-top 60-inch rollable OLED screen and RGB lighting, it’s something virtually every gamer would love to have at home. Meanwhile, it Hazel Project is an innovative way to offer a standard reusable mask, which provides the kind of protection that people need against viruses in the air, while dealing with many problems that traditional cloth or paper coatings have. Honestly, the most important thing to keep these concepts in the strange area instead of jumping to our best list is that both are closer to fiction than something you can actually buy. – Sam Rutherford

ColdSnap

Keurig dominates the food area on pods, while others like Juicero are spectacular did not succeed in trying to exert themselves. Although the machines promise that the experience is all about convenience, there are some major compromises to the approach. Pods need to be manufactured and recycled, and the cost per pod usually means that if it is not used more than once a day, it is not worth it. The ColdSnap also looks like a beast of a machine, and it looks like it will take up a LOT of space on your counter for the convenience of ice cream with gentle servings in just 90 seconds. You can buy ice cream makers for less than $ 100 that last longer, but you can also use all your own ingredients. – Andrew Liszewski

Panasonic nanoe hair dryer

The Panasonic nanoe hair dryer (EH-NA67-W) actually gets its name from a function where the hair dryer draws moisture from the air around it (which is presumably very moist after a bath or shower) and then blows your locks with ‘small, moisture-rich particles’ What Panasonic claims is ‘1000 times more moist’ than the charged ion particles used by other hair dryers to achieve the same hydrating effect. It also features a unique oscillating, fast-drying nozzle that moves back and forth quickly in an effort to dry hair faster and with less effort. At $ 150 it falls between a cheap hair dryer and Dyson’s premium offers, and it can be neat if it sounds very strange technology actually work. – Andrew Liszewski

AMD and Nsee Keynotes

Both AMD and Nvidia had great mobile-related news at CES 2021, but new news does not mean exciting news, and a large shortage in GPU space that means both companies seem to be withholding the much bigger announcements that fans are expecting. We will one day get the Radeon 6700 and the RTX 3070 Super, but not at CES. – Joanna Nelius

HarmaA personal audio main support platform

Speakers built into the headrest of your car seat which comes down to creating the music in your music pipe ears is a very great idea, but I’m not sure it’s necessarily a practical idea. Speakers appear on either side of your head likes a great way to inflict damage in the event of an accident, and it will be absolutely annoying if you are driving with a friend and suddenly deploy their speakers. There’s also the way it kills the car’s death song. this is virtually necessary if you have two or more people in a car and someone is kicking with the AUX cable. I do not hate Harman’s Personal Audio Headrest Platform, but it definitely seems like a strange solution to a problem that few people have. – Alex Cranz

Samsung Eco remote control

I’m delighted to see a TV maker move away from AA or AAA disposable batteries that are likely to end up in the trash. If Samsung believes it’s new Eco remote control– which is shipped with all its new 2021 QLED 4K and 8K TVs, can be sent via light as well as through a USB-C port, and Samsung says the remote can last up to two years on a single charge. It’s not too bad if you’re buying a TV you want for the next ten years or more. I’m cautiously optimistic about this remote, but I would like to see it in action before I pump too much about the future of TV wizards. It definitely corpse like a step in the right direction. – Catie Keck

Morari patch

It’s a taint … bandaid …which the no man’s land disappears between the scrotum and anus to stop premature ejaculation. Do I really need to expand? – Victoria Song
