SEATTLE – A rare winter storm that poured a foot of snow on Seattle could not keep a 90-year-old woman from her first appointment for the coronavirus vaccine.
Fran Goldman walked six miles back and forth to get her shot, reports The Seattle Times.
“I called to make an appointment every morning, every afternoon, and I was often online at night,” Goldman said.
She finally secured a slot for Sunday morning, but Friday and Saturday saw a strong winter storm move through the region, turning the city’s normally rainy streets into a winter scene of snowstorms.
Goldman dressed in fleece pants and a short-sleeved shirt so that the nurse could easily reach out to her arm. Over it she laid a zipper of fleece, then a down jacket and then a rain jacket.
She then puts on snow boots, takes out her walking sticks and ventures out to the snowy street.
“It was not easy to go, it was challenging,” she told the newspaper.
But Goldman reached her appointment, just 5 minutes late.
Her daughter Ruth Goldman, who lives in Buffalo, New York, was not surprised by her mother’s actions.
“We are outside people,” she said. “We like to be outside. I was out at Lake Ontario yesterday with a 6 degree wind chill. ‘
