The surprisingly attractive 2022 Kia Carnival‘s name change of Sedona was officially confirmed today; the news leaked last month. We also get details on the finish, and although Kia claims that the Carnival is now a ‘Grand Utility Vehicle’, it will not be offered for sale with the four-wheel drive option.

Kia is making a lot of changes in its fourth generation American minibus. The first three generations had the Sedona model name, and now the model adopts the name tag of his Korean brother or sister. The design is more SUV-like, hence the attempt to label it as a Grand Utility vehicle in earlier teasers before being called a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in the latest news release. It will also be the first model in the US to be offered for sale with the redesigned company logo.

One drivetrain, a 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 290 horsepower and 262 lb of torque, is available for each of the four trim levels offered. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and is only available with front-wheel drive when offered for sale.

The average fuel efficiency is now slightly improved with a single point above the outgoing Sedona, which achieves an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg on average. Kia also says that its new MPV will drag up to 3500 pounds.

Inside the sliding doors, there is an option to seat up to eight souls, although the standard configuration has seven. There is also an optional VIP Lounge seating package with hooded chairs in the second row, which is ventilated and connected to the entertainment system so you never have to sit up straight. Some kids are going to be spoiled, and we should all sit here and be happy for them.

The second row can be moved upwards so that a mounted car seat is within the arm length of the front passenger, or it can be completely removed, and the third row can be folded flat into the floor for a large boot. There are also the well-known family jerseys that did the Honda Odyssey groundbreaking work, including a rear intercom system for the driver and rear cameras that now even feature a night vision.
