The 17-year-old suspect arrested in Wisconsin shopping center in Iowa, authorities say

U.S. Marshals Service staff on Thursday arrested a teenage refugee wanted on murder charges in connection with a deadly shooting at a Wisconsin mall days earlier, according to reports.

Dezman V. Ellis, 17, was arrested in Iowa, four days after the shooting at Fox River Mall in Grand Chute, Wis., Outside Green Bay. Jovanni Frausto, 19, was killed during the shooting and forced shopping malls into a shelter by investigating authorities. Another unknown man was also allegedly shot in the hip.

Ellis is charged as an adult in the case, reports Green Bay’s WBAY-TV.

According to the WBAY-TV in Green Bay, the Grand Chute police station has arrested according to ‘WBAY-TV’ about a comprehensive, 24-hour investigation.

The Grand Chute Police Department has asked the US Marshals Service to help after the department learned that Ellis was likely to leave the state. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in Des Moines, about 400 miles (400 km) from the crime scene, according to the Post-Crescent of Appleton, Wis.

Ellis and Frausto reportedly ran into each other at the mall and ‘started exchanging words’ over a girl and at one point Ellis allegedly showed Frausto a gun that was hidden near his waist.

“I will shoot this place, I will kill you,” the suspect said according to authorities.

Frausto was apparently unarmed.

Ellis allegedly shot Frausto twice: once in the chest and once in an arm and back.

After Frausto fell to the floor, Ellis fled the mall, a girl who was hanging out with the suspect told police.

The girl told police she and her friends were back at their car where Ellis was already waiting for them. She said she was “scared” but was still chasing him back to his apartment in Oshkosh, Wis., Reports the Post-Crescent.

After his arrest, Ellis was detained in a safe facility in Iowa, according to WBAY. He is facing charges of first-degree murder.
