The $ 159 OnePlus Watch is the first OnePlus smartwatch

It took years, but OnePlus is finally working on the smartwatch game with the newly announced OnePlus Watch, starting at $ 159. The new watch (as unveiled last week) has a round design that looks like a regular wristwatch, instead of the elongated rectangle popularized by the Apple Watch and its followers, such as the Oppo Watch.

The case itself is stainless steel, measures 46 mm and has two buttons on the side (one of which contains the OnePlus logo). It will be available in two colors: silver and black. The screen is a 1.39-inch OLED panel at 326 ppi, with sapphire crystal.

The watch also features a version of OnePlus’ Warp Charge system (which promises a week-long battery life of less than 20 minutes). OnePlus promises that the watch should last up to two weeks on a single charge or up to one week for heavier users.

Specifically, the OnePlus Watch has 1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal storage and integrated speakers. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS are all built-in, but there is no cellular option. To connect to the watch, you need to be connected to a nearby phone.

Fitness is also a big part of the OnePlus Watch. It offers more than 110 workouts, offers built-in GPS and is resistant to IP68 and water and dust. In addition, the OnePlus Watch has internal storage for music, which allows users to store up to 500 songs to listen over their Bluetooth headphones when on the go, even if they do not have their phone with them. The OnePlus Watch can also automatically detect and track workouts, as well as monitor sleep, stress, blood oxygen saturation and heart rate.

However, OnePlus does not use Wear OS for the OnePlus Watch. As announced by the company prior to the event, it will use RTOS-style software setup (similar to companies like Fitbit), with a companion app that connects to your phone to receive calls and notifications. (An iOS app for Apple users is also promised for the future.)

This means that things like app selection and personal watches will be largely limited to anything that OnePlus can build internally – so no third-party apps, at least for now. That said, to get started, there will be dozens of watch options to choose from (with additional customization options to add more style options), giving users a bit of flexibility.

The OnePlus Watch can also be connected to a OnePlus TV (where available) so that it can be used as a remote control. And if you happen to fall asleep while watching OnePlus’ TV, the watch may turn off the TV automatically after it notices that you’m asleep.

The company has also announced a limited edition model of a cobalt alloy, which they say is twice as hard as stainless steel. OnePlus says the Cobalt Limited Edition will be coming soon, but the company has yet to offer a price.

The OnePlus Watch will launch from $ 159 and will be available from April 14 from OnePlus’ website.
