This girl has goals for the moon – and beyond.
A 12-year-old Arizona girl who dreams of finishing a job as a NASA engineer before she’s old enough to vote will start at Arizona State University this summer, reports KPNX in Phoenix.
When Alena Wicker was just 4 years old, she reportedly told her mother she wanted to work for NASA. Eight years later, she is still working on the goal, with the goal of hiring at age 16.

“I always dreamed of being an engineer because I loved building all my life,” Alena told KPNX.
“I just had a purpose I wanted to achieve,” she added.
Her mother, Daphne McQuarter, told the TV station that Alena had always been gifted. Alena is reportedly homeschooled and allowed her classes.

“She just had a gift for numbers and Lego and science, so I started cherishing that gift,” McQuarter told KPNX.
According to the report, Alena intends to double the astronomical and planetary science and chemistry. And McQuarter said the plan is still for Alena to finish at age 16 so she can do a job at NASA.
At NASA, Alena said she wants to build rovers like the Perseverance that recently landed on Mars.

“I’m planning it the way I go,” Alena told KPNX. “It doesn’t matter what your age is or what you plan to do. Go for it, dream and then achieve it.”
