Thailand News Today | New report on infection, CCSA announces new restrictions on April 16

The CCSA this afternoon announced its updated restrictions for the 18 ‘red zone’ provinces. The new measures start on Sunday 18 April and will be in place for at least 2 weeks. The restrictions are basically as we published earlier today. There are no ‘locks’ or curfews, despite the fact that a popular blogger jumps the gun and posts that curfew rules have been announced.

No specific travel restrictions were imposed either, although the prime minister ‘discouraged’ going to Red Zone provinces. Provincial governors can still add their own local restrictions if they deem it necessary.

Here are the key points as announced by the CCSA in the late afternoon …

In all provinces …

• Closing of schools, all nightlife, bars and clubs, karaoke bars and massage parlors

(except for international schools that take exams)

• No event can have more than 50 people

Provincial red zones (listed below) …

• Dining room allowed until 21:00 (but can take away until 23:00)

• The serving of alcohol is forbidden

• Shopping malls and fitness centers will be closed at 21:00

(Sports fields, training grounds, gyms and fitness clubs must close at 21:00)

• Convenience stores, markets and supermarkets must be closed at 23:00

Everywhere else …

• Dining allowed until 23:00

• The serving of alcohol is forbidden

• Shopping malls will be closed at 21:00

In addition, people are discouraged from traveling to the ‘Red Zone’ provinces. Businesses are also ‘asked’ to allow staff to work from home or to take other measures to reduce the risk of infection in the workplace.

The Red Zone provinces are in no clear order …

1. Bangkok
2. Chiang Mai
Chon Buri
4. Samut Prakan
Prachuap Khiri Kan
Samut Sakhon
Pathum Thani
8. Nakhon Pathom
