Dallas County on Wednesday reported 1,671 new cases of coronavirus and another 40 deaths due to COVID-19 – the most that the country reported in a single day during the pandemic.
Across the state, Texas also reported a record toll of one day, adding 467 deaths on Wednesday.
The youngest victims of Dallas County were mostly in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Twenty-five of the victims were from Dallas, including two women in their twenties, one of whom had no underlying health problems. Six were from Mesquite, three from DeSoto, three from Duncanville and one each from Garland, Hutchins and Sachse.
“These deaths are the result of the high number of COVID cases reported in recent weeks,” Judge Clay Jenkins said in a prepared statement. “Increased deaths always follow increased infections.”

Of the new cases, 1,397 were confirmed and 274 probable.
The newly reported cases bring the province to 252,047, including 222,409 confirmed cases and 29,638 probable cases. The death toll stands at 2,092.
Health officials use hospitalizations, admissions to intensive care and visits to emergencies as key statistics to track the real-time impact of COVID-19 in the country. In the 24-hour period that ended Tuesday, 1137 COVID-19 patients were in acute care in hospitals across the country. During the same period, there were 600 ER visits for symptoms of the disease.
According to state data, 119,237 people in Dallas County received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 23,244 were fully vaccinated.
Texas
Across the state, 19,613 more cases were reported, along with 467 deaths, the highest one-day toll reported during the pandemic.
Texas’ death toll now stands at 35,168.
Of the cases reported on Wednesday, 15,072 were confirmed and 4,541 likely.
The newly reported cases bring the state to 2,292,732, including 2,003,135 confirmed cases and 289,597 probable cases.
According to state data, 1,603,193 people in Texas received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 320,310 were fully vaccinated.
Tarrant county
Tarrant County reported 1,227 cases of coronavirus and 12 deaths on Wednesday.
The latest victims included three men from Arlington: one in his 30s and two in their 80s. Two Fort Worth residents were also killed – a man and woman each in their 60s – as well as two Mansfield women, one in her 60s and one in her 70s.
Other victims include two men from Southlake over 90 and three men in their 70s from Benbrook, Grapevine and Grand Prairie.
Officials said all the victims had underlying health problems.
Of the new cases, 982 were confirmed and 245 likely. The new cases bring the province to 211,076, including 182,189 confirmed cases and 28,887 probable cases. The death toll stands at 2113.
According to the province, 1,279 people will be admitted to hospital from Wednesday.
According to state data, 92,668 people in Tarrant County received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 10,310 were fully vaccinated.
Collin county
The state added 1,010 cases of coronavirus and 11 deaths to the total number of Collin County Wednesday.
No details about the latest victims were available.
Of the new cases, 673 were confirmed and 337 probable.
The newly reported cases bring the province to 70,414, including 60,378 confirmed cases and 10,036 probable cases. The death toll stands at 550.
According to the province, 509 people with the virus are being admitted to hospital.
According to state data, 44,954 people in Collin County received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 9,844 were fully vaccinated.
Denton county
Denton County reported 645 cases of coronavirus and no deaths on Wednesday.
The newly reported cases bring the province to 51,857, including 41,295 confirmed cases and 10,562 probable cases. The death toll stands at 308.
According to the province, 184 people with the virus are being admitted to hospital.
According to state data, 24,750 people in Denton County received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, while 5,468 were fully vaccinated.
Other provinces
The Texas Department of Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some provinces, new data is not reported every day.
The latest numbers are:
- Rockwall County: 9,082 cases (7,561 confirmed and 1,521 likely), 91 deaths.
- Kaufman County: 12,688 cases (11,028 confirmed and 1,660 likely), 176 deaths.
- Ellis County: 18,139 cases (15,930 confirmed and 2,209 probable), 228 deaths.
- Johnson County: 16,021 cases (14,176 confirmed and 1,845 probable), 251 deaths.
