The text of the text to request a head coaching interview with Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after the end of the regular season has apparently classified forward Deshaun Watson and the team is now trying to go in the other direction.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that they asked for an interview with Bieniemy for their opening.

Bieniemy cannot interview the team early next week. Bieniemy was available for interview with the Jets, Jaguars, Chargers, Falcons and Lions last week because the Chiefs were at a distance, but he would not be able to speak to the Texans until the Chiefs were finished.

The Chiefs are the best in the AFC, and no one will be surprised if they return to the Super Bowl, which will provide a long wait for an interview.

All of this assumes that the request will provide Bieniemy with a positive response, given the team’s reluctance to ask for one before Watson’s displeasure becomes a matter of public discussion. They were hiring general manager Nick Caserio, and that probably changed the direction of their coaching search, but they did talk to Panthers attacking coordinator Joe Brady without Caserio being in place.
