A new contender has appeared on Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Denver Broncos defender Kareem Jackson says he has spoken to Watson several times and that Watson is “interested in landing with the Broncos.”
Jackson, who played with the Watson on the Texans for two seasons, was pretty open about his conversations with Watson and told TMZ: ‘I’ve had a few conversations with [Watson]. Just to say that Denver is a place he wants to end up. ”
Jackson talked a lot about Watson’s ability and said he would make every team an immediate contender. Jackson also made sure he did not insult the current Broncos quarterback, saying he is high on Drew Lock and believes Lock can make the team move.
What would the Broncos give up for Deshaun Watson?
The Broncos are likely to be disadvantaged in the trade talks for Watson. Although the team has the overall number 9 in the NFL draft in 2021, it has only one first choice. Both the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets could host two first rounds in 2021.
However, if the Dolphins and Jets decide to succeed, the Broncos could become an interesting option. The team will likely have to make multiple choices, including two or three first rounds for Watson. On top of that, the Broncos Lock – and possibly another player – will probably have to send Watson to the Texans. Whether that’s a strong enough offer depends on how new Texans general manager Nick Caserio and head coach David Culley feel about Lock. Do they like Lock more than Sam Darnold, Tua Tagovailoa or any of the other young backs who will be offered in exchange for Watson?
Will the Texans trade Deshaun Watson?
While Watson was trying to trade, Caserio and Culley indicated that they wanted Watson to stay. In January, Caserio said he had a “zero interest” in dealing with Watson. The quarterback responded by removing Texans mentions from his social media profiles. The two reportedly said has not spoken since Caserio was appointed.
The Texans do not have to deal with Watson, as he is under contract with the team until 2025. But if Watson makes it clear he is not going to play for the team, Caserio may have no other choice. He would be wise to investigate other young backs now, as the situation with Watson seems unsavable at the moment.
