If you’re still thinking about getting a Tesla Powerwall or equipping your roof with its redesigned solar panels, you should probably consider getting both or going completely elsewhere. Elon Musk unveils in a tweet that “From next week, Tesla Solar Panels & Solar Roof will only be sold as an integrated product * with * Tesla Powerwall battery” creating the kind of trading energy he was looking for.
Solar power will be applied exclusively to Powerwall. Powerwall will only connect between utility meter and main breaker panel, allowing for a super simple installation and seamless backup for the entire home during the failure of the utilities.

Electrek reported last month that Tesla’s website has started telling potential buyers of Powerwall that the only way to get the popular battery is to order solar panels as well, so this policy seems to be working both ways. In addition to tying just two big-ticket items together, Musk added: “Tesla can upload higher software for free via software update next month” for Powerwall 2, and that solar power for new installations will be provided exclusively on battery power .
Of course, like Electrek also mentioned, even if you already have a contract with Tesla for your panels, it can change the deal with a higher price than originally estimated, with reference to ‘roof complexity’.
