Tesla updates Model 3 with new accents and heated steering wheel

Tesla has updated the Model 3 again with a new design accent recently introduced in the new Model Y in China and the long-awaited heated steering wheel.

2021 Tesla Model 3

Tesla officially introduced the Model 3 2021 refresh with more scope and new features in October 2020, but as we previously reported, the refresh is still underway.

The carmaker first made changes to the Model 3 made in China, such as the chrome removal, and they added new features such as double-glazed windows, powered trunk and a new center console.

With the update, Tesla has also made improvements under the hood, such as a new heat pump and a new battery with a higher capacity.

New updates of Tesla Model 3

Now Tesla is updating the Model 3-manufactured China again and like previous changes, we expect it to arrive soon at the Model 3-manufactured in the US.

Last week, we reported on Tesla’s update of the interior design of the Model Y electric SUV based on an update to the Model Y configurator in China as they begin production at Gigafactory Shanghai.

One change was a new wood panel inside the doors of Model Y and now we see that the change has also reached the Model 3:

Tesla also added a heated steering wheel, which was a long-awaited option, which we heard with the 2021 Model 3 udpate.

In the Chinese configurator, you can see the new option if you choose the premium interior available to buyers of Model 3 Performance:

However, as with the previous Tesla options, we believe that the hardware will become standard and that Tesla will likely offer the heated steering wheel option as a software upgrade through its mobile app to buyers of the cheaper version of the vehicle.

Although these changes are currently only reflected in the Model 3-manufactured China, we expect Tesla to make the changes in the Model 3 vehicles manufactured in Fremont in the coming weeks – which will make it accessible to North American customers.
