It looks like Tesla is already delivering a large order of robots for Model Y production in Gigafactory Texas.
Tesla Gigafactory Texas
Tesla announced in mid-2020 an agreement to build a brand new factory in Austin, where they bought a 2,000-acre piece of land.
Initially, Tesla referred to the factory as the Cybertruck Gigafactory because the car manufacturer planned to manufacture the electric pickup there.
However, we reported that Tesla initially intended to manufacture the Model Y at the factory, and the company later renamed it ‘Gigafactory Texas’.
The carmaker plans to manufacture Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck and Tesla Semi at Gigafactory Texas.
Construction began in July 2020 and the carmaker plans to reach a “first completion” in May 2021, and production is expected to begin shortly thereafter.
Tesla also plans to establish the production of battery cells in the factory and make it an ‘ecological paradise’ that will be opened to the public.
Over the past few months, Tesla has made a lot of progress based on drones from the construction site.
There are now several giant buildings taking shape.
Tesla takes down robots
Although we have seen a lot of progress with construction, building structures and using production capacity are two completely different things.
But we have also seen progress on the production capacity front. Last month we reported that Tesla is delivering its first Giga Press at Gigafactory Texas.
Now it looks like Tesla is also delivering a decent sized robot.
The YouTube channel Terafactory Texas flew over the plant this week and saw Tesla download what looked like many robots:
Most Tesla production lines require hundreds of robots, and the carmaker is known to use both Kuka and Fanuc robots.
This is a good sign that Tesla is ready to start expanding its production lines for the Model Y. But it could take months before Tesla can manufacture vehicles from the new factory.
