Tesla Inc’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model S and Model X have long had a feature called bioweapon defense mode. When activated, the car creates a positive pressure on the inside so that air can not enter through any cracks in the doors, and bring all the air through a HEPA filter into the car. This allows the residents to breathe in clean air, regardless of what the environment offers.
So far, this mode has not been available on the lower cost Model 3, and Elon Musk, CEO of Model Y, said Model 3 did not fit for a large enough filter.
But now, some photos posted by Tesmanian show that the manufacture in China Model Y appears with the bioweapon defense mode. Photos show the feature activated in the car, and describe the filter as large as that on Model X.
Benzinga’s name: Although anyone would appreciate this feature, the Chinese market may appreciate it the most, as citizens are often concerned about air quality. During the California wildfires, owners praised the bioweapon defense mode, saying it saved them from smoking. In areas with major pollution, this option could potentially be a literal lifesaver.
