Tesla Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA), Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) – Elon Musk wants to build a rocket-powered Tesla Roadster that can soar ‘without killing people’

Tesla Ing (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk said on Thursday he wanted to add rockets to the four-seater Roadster sports vehicle to keep it afloat.

What happened: Talk to Joe Rogan on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast stream Spotify Technology SA’s (NYSE: SPOT) service, the entrepreneur said: ‘I want to [the Roadster] to soar, and I was trying to figure out how to make this thing float without killing people. ”

‘Maybe it could float like a meter above the ground, or something like that. If you fall, it will blow out the suspension, but you are not going to die. ‘

Musk also touched the yoke like the steering wheel added to the new Model S and Model X vehicles, which was announced last month.

Rogan asked him if the steering wheel was legal, to which he replied in the affirmative: “I mean they use a yoke in Formula One.”

Musk also gave some details about a possible future Tesla electric van and said that the carmaker could install solar panels – thanks to the flat and large surface of the van.

‘You might also have a roof where it’s sunny, and then, when it’s stationary, [the roof] go out and provide shade, and maybe triple your area or something. “If you now triple the area, and you have a large, flat surface, you might be able to start loading enough where you start getting about 30 miles a day,” Musk said.

Why it matters: In September last year, Musk created an excitement when he smoked weeds with the podcast host.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said last month that it had contacted Tesla about the possible use of the yoke steering wheel for the Model S, CNet reported.

The agency said it “could not determine if the steering wheel meets the federal standard for car safety.” If the carmaker violates the standards, the yoke may not be allowed.

A number of companies are working on electric vans, including Arrival, which plans to merge CIIG Merger Corp (NASDAQ: CIIC) and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) supported Rivian.
