A recent observation of a Tesla Model S update quite possibly offers the first look at the potential user interface of software version 11, as well as some features. The images also showed how Tesla can use the Model S refresh’s 17 ″ infotainment system with its Cybertruck size and its instrument cluster.
In a report in the subreddit r / TeslaMotors, the electric vehicle enthusiast u / FridayTheDog111 noted that the images were taken in one of the two high-kilometer Model S refreshment units that traveled from Phoenix to Fremont. The EV enthusiast did not say where he encountered the vehicle, although the photos were taken at the Kettleman Supercharger.
A look at the photos shared by the electric car lover reveals that V11 software will include some UI changes compared to V10. The vehicle’s 3D avatar, which is apparently about the same size as the one in Model 3 and Model Y, was displayed in the instrument cluster. This indicates that driving visualizations in the upcoming vehicle are displayed in the instrument cluster, similar to its predecessor.
The additional real estate offered by the 17 ″ infotainment system looks remarkable, as can be seen in the screen’s support of several widgets. But as far as it is interesting, the features that stood out in the “Driving” menu of the new Model S are on the recent photos. In the photos, one can see new features, such as “Smart Shift”, dedicated “Drag Strip Mode”, and an option for “Insane” acceleration.
Although the nature of the new features has yet to be announced by Tesla, it seems like ‘Smart Shift’ is related to a feature that Elon Musk recently referred to on Twitter. In a tweet, the Tesla CEO noted that the Model S refresh can work without a shift. An email that was later leaked contains additional details about the feature, with Musk declaring that the system would do so use autopilot cameras to determine if a vehicle should be in Park, Neutral, Reverse or Drive. These features appear to be compatible with a Smart Shift feature.
‘Insane’ acceleration is a throwback to the days of the Model S P85D, a variant of the fully electric flagship sedan that can move from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Insane Mode is partly responsible for the tendency for Tesla owners to share reaction videos with passengers experiencing the Model S ‘acceleration for the first time. ‘Drag Strip Mode’, considering its moniker, apparently refers to a feature that enables drivers to launch their Model S with the best performance possible.
That said, the fact that there were no ‘Plaid’ references in the recently photographed Model S refresh indicates that the car is a Dual Motor Long Range AWD variant. Nevertheless, it should also be pointed out that the recent images show only some screens and features that were available in the V11 software of Model S refresh. Other features, especially those that will be unique to the Model S Plaid, are likely to be even more exciting.
