A Tesla Model S ‘Refresh’ with a wide body, an updated rear diffuser and new wheels was spotted on New Year’s Day near headquarters in Silicon Valley.
Photos of a blue Model S with chrome-removed finish and a visibly wider stance can further confirm that Tesla’s flagship sedan is on course for its long-awaited design refresh it includes Tesla’s next-generation three-engine Plaid Powertrain.
Ryan Levenson of the Kilowatts Youtube channel spotted the unique Model S with manufacturer plates near the intersection of Arastradero Road and Purissima Road in Palo Alto, California, early Friday afternoon.

This is the first known observation of a Model S with factory roads on public roads since the company’s pest model S teased in September 2020.
Arastradero Road near Tesla’s headquarters is no stranger to seeing Tesla alpha and prototype vehicles, and a path that has become synonymous with an unofficial test bed for new vehicles and the development of the Autopilot.
In addition to the matte black window trim seen on the Model S Refresh, it also indicates that Tesla will do away with chrome trim completely and likely future versions of its flagship Model X SUV with similar ‘chrome delete’, new wheels and revised headlights have also been noted .
Design changes to the Model S front panel seemed minimal on the photos Teslarati saw. While it’s not clear whether Tesla will make significant updates to the front bumper design (as in 2016 when the Model S ‘nosecoon’ was replaced) when production of the three-car Model S begins this year, the race can be seen – Red Nürburgring Model S would suggest additional cooling openings and a slightly more aggressive lower lip the scope of any major cosmetic updates.
Delivery of Tesla’s Model S with the Tri Motor Plaid propulsion system is expected to begin at the end of 2021 at a starting price of $ 139,990. According to the manufacturer, Tesla Model S Plaid can reach 520+ miles and deliver performance in less than 2 seconds.
