Tesla launches new center console in model Y electric SUV

Tesla has launched its new center console in the Model Y electric sport utility vehicle after bringing it to the Model 3 last year.

Late last year, Tesla introduced a refresh version of the Model 3 with several updated features.

One of the biggest changes was a new center console between the two front seats.

Tesla got rid of the piano black gloss finish and replaced it with a matte finish.

Instead of adding a phone charger to the upper part, it is now embedded in the upper part of the console, which is now wrapped in the artificial leather material on all sides.

The middle section now slides open instead of using a scrolling system in the previous version.

Some of these owners are sometimes known to be weak for some owners, while the new sliding system is more robust and less subject to remain open.

The new center console is only integrated in the new Model 3 and not in the Model Y, although the two vehicles shared an interior before the changes.

Now, a few months later, TMC member joeinsac has found some brand new Tesla Model Y at the Tesla Center in Rocklin, California and is equipped with the new center console:

One of the vehicles showed a VIN 122,778 and a build date of 02/09/2021, which can give us an indication of when Tesla made the change to Model Y.

Although the car manufacturer still shows the old center console on the online configurator for the electric SUV:

Therefore, it is unclear whether all new Model Y vehicles will be built with the new center console or whether Tesla will still switch the interior.

Sometimes it is known that Tesla hardware changes, even when it is ready and that it still manufactures vehicles with older hardware.
