Tesla has a new gaming computer and plans to (sort of) compete with Xbox and Steam

Tesla has a new gaming computer in its electric vehicles that can compete with the latest gaming consoles.

New Tesla Gaming Computer

With the unveiling of the new Model S and Model X, Tesla has announced a new gaming computer in the vehicles:

‘Up to 10 teraflops of processing power makes the game inside the car possible with today’s latest consoles via Tesla Arcade. The compatibility of wireless controllers allows play from every seat.

A well-known disc jockey, Patrick Schur, has a diagram of the new Tesla gaming computer powered by the AMD Navi 23 GPU:

The system is integrated and is directly connected to two touch screens in the Model S and Model X to play games, watch entertainment and perform other functions:

CEO Elon Musk also revealed that the new computer has more storage space to handle more games on the platform at the same time.

The website videocardz compares the specifications with existing consoles of the latest generation, which shows that it indeed matches well with the available specifications:

Tesla is about the video game industry

As we reported earlier, Tesla has a team of software engineers working on video games in Seattle, and they recently started building a similar team in Austin.

The carmaker built a video game platform called Tesla Arcade into its vehicles and worked with video games to send games there.

At the moment, it’s mainly to create added value to its experience of ownership, but Tesla may have bigger plans to play in its vehicles.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently indicated that he believes “entertainment will be critical if cars drive themselves”, which he thinks Tesla can achieve later this year.

In preparation for that, the carmaker has released more video games in its Tesla Arcade and has indicated it could turn it into a business.

We have seen indications that Tesla intends to offer paid packages of various video games in its vehicles, which would start offering the same business as Valve’s Steam, the Playstation Store or the Xbox Live Store.
