Tesla doubling of beta testers for full self-driving (FSD), will soon increase 10x

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that the size of the Beta program for full self-driving (Beta self-driving) has now doubled with the new 8.2 software update. The next step, the update of 8.3, is expected to bring about a further increase of an order of magnitude. The expansion was indicated in a previous series of tweets.

Elon Musk said “be careful” with the use of the FSD function, as it is not a self-governing system, but only a beta, which requires 100% attention. On the other hand, in his opinion, the system is “grow up” the number of human interventions required should therefore decrease, we think.

“If you want to get the Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta loaded to your car, let us know. Now double the beta program size by 8.2 and probably 10X by 8.3. Be still careful, but it’s getting mature.”

Tesla will start rolling out beta on October 22, 2020 (initially only for a small group of testers in the US).

If the FSD program is about 1,000, it should be about 2,000 after doubling and then in the next step at 10,000-20,000. This is only a small part of about 1.4 million Tesla electric cars worldwide.

According to Elon Musk, the interest is to participate in the beta test, and to manage it, the company will soon (within about ten days) add a special “Download Beta” button in the Service section of the car show.

“Due to the high levels of demand for FSD Beta, the” Download Beta “button will be added to the car show service department within ~ ten days.”

Another thing is the geographical deployment. From now on, it can not be made available everywhere, due to the required regulatory approvals.

Elon Musk explains that the word “Beta” is the key and that the implementation follows internal tests by the company:

“Availability varies by region due to delays in approving Tesla regulations and / or internal development and testing.

Note: the word “Beta” is used to reduce complacency in use and set expectations in the right way. All the software is first tested internally by Tesla simulation and QA drives. ‘

We do not know when Tesla FSD can be completed and then approved, but with the broader beta tests we should at least get more feedback and videos to see the current progress.
