Fworms Real Madrid and Hercules wing Royston Drenthe is back in Spain, as he put a pen on paper for Tercera Division Ren Murcia.
The 33-year-old has joined the leaders of Group 13B, with 20 points from nine games, and will hope to help the team win promotion to Segunda Division B after signing a deal until the end of the season.
“Real Madrid was in my heart from a young age, and if you then put on their shirt, you’re always a Blanco, ‘ Drenthe said.
Drenthe was able to make his debut against Cartagena B this weekend, and he discussed the problems of the move.
“At first it was a little hard to come because my kids were sad, but I’m hopeful of starting to do good things,” he notes.
“I was well received. I am calm and happy and we will see how I fit into the team as soon as I start training.”
Drenthe was with Real Madrid between 2007 and 2012, while on loan at Hercules for the last two years, and has also played in a long career for Everton, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Sparta Rotterdam.
“I still have to talk to the coach, but I think I will be the happiest in the central midfield,” he said when asked how the coach, Antonio Pedreno, was going to use him at his youngest club.
