Clubhouse is now the new heat, but the developers only started working on an app for Android in January, and there is still no word on when it may drop. If you’re looking for something to fill the void, Telegram’s new update builds on the voice calls launched late last year, which add sound recording, virtual handhelds and unlimited listeners.

By far the biggest change here – and the one that feels closest to tackling Clubhouse – is unlimited users in voice chats. Telegram has already allowed thousands of attendees to listen to a call, but with today’s update, the app now supports ‘millions of live listeners’ in both channels and public groups. A large chat conversation will definitely get noisy, so there is a “light hand” button for muted participants to get the attention of the host before it is muted.

Aspiring podcasters everywhere will be delighted to hear that voice companies can now be included in your saved message directory. Any channels currently being recorded will be marked with a red dot so you can know in advance if a conversation is taking place. If you want to connect directly to a voice channel, you can now use Telegram to create independent direct links for both speakers and listeners. And once you’ve found a voice chat to join, you can now choose to go public with your channel username or stay private with your personal account.

This update is not just focused on new features for group calls. It’s now easier to switch from group before forwarding a link (if you initially selected the wrong thread) and a resume play feature has been added for long voicemails, something videos have already had. Finally, Android users can now assign a specific action when they swipe left over a thread in the chat list.

You can download the latest update from the Google Play Store below or grab it from APK Mirror.
