Telangana health worker dies on day 11 after being shot

The health worker dies on the 11th day after shooting

A health care worker died in Telangana – a third case of its kind – a few days after taking the Covid-19 vaccine, although health authorities maintained that the mortality was not due to vaccination.

The 55-year-old man from the Mancherial district received the vaccine dose at the primary health center in Kasipet on January 19, but only complained of shortness of breath and dizziness on January 29, officials said Sunday.

According to the director of public health, Dr G Srinivas Rao, she was admitted to Medilife Hospital in Mancherial. She was transferred to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIM) Hyderabad on January 30, where she succumbed around 11pm.

“The cause of death is clearly an indication of underlying disease and not due to vaccination against Covid. The death occurred as a result of cardio-respiratory attack caused by multiple diseases such as kyphoscoliosis with limited lung disease, type 2 respiratory infection “respiratory failure, accelerated hypertension with left ventricular failure,” Rao said.

Since the vaccination began on January 16, health officials have said the three such deaths are not related to vaccination.

Interestingly, all three took the vaccine on the same day, but at different locations in the state.

In the first incident, a 42-year-old male health worker who took the shot died on January 19, the next day. He received the vaccine at the Kuntala Primary Health Center in Nirmal district.

He suffered chest pain and was taken to Nirmal District Hospital in the early hours of January 20.

In the second case, a 45-year-old female health care worker who was vaccinated on January 19 at a primary health center in the Warangal Urban district died on January 24.

Telangana has so far vaccinated 1,68,589 health workers. According to health officials, 57 percent of the targeted beneficiaries were given the vaccine.
