Teenager shot in the leg at New Year’s Eve at the Independence Center

INDEPENDENCE, Ma. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg in the independence center on Thursday night, which had to close the shopping center for the rest of the night.

According to a police in the Independence Council conducting the investigation, staff from several jurisdictions – including Independence, Kansas City, Missouri and the Sheriff’s Department of Jackson County – responded to the incident.

According to Officer John Syme, a spokesman for the Independence Police Department, an altercation between two groups of people preceded.

Police detained another person at the scene and were looking for other people involved in the initial altercation, Syme said.

“We are looking for other people involved,” he said. “It does not necessarily mean that they are a suspect or a victim. It just means that they are involved in the incident in some way. They may have seen something. Maybe they were directly involved in it as well.”

Police’s independence police confirmed the shooting in a Facebook message around 6pm and asked the public to stay away from the Independence Center.

The mall was closed for the night.

“Police officers were working out of service and heard gunshots,” police said in a statement. “A subject who was shot in the leg and provided life-saving medical assistance. The subject of a 16-year-old man was transported to a hospital. One other person was detained.”

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the shooting is apparently near Dick’s Sporting Goods, which is located on the west side of the mall.

The officers who were not on duty shot several “tournaments on the teenager’s leg to stop the bleeding before he was taken to a nearby hospital.

Police will review the security material of shopping malls as part of the investigation.

Independence Center was in the news recently after large-scale fighting led city leaders to set a curfew on unattended minors near the mall and other malls along the hallway.

Several youths were subsequently detained several hundred teenagers caused problems, including a handful of fights, end of October.

At least 10 people were arrested last weekend after another series of disturbances.

Businesses in the area were adjust to the evening clock amid the increase in incidents at the mall, which were rescued from the country edge of a negative sale in February 2018 by Pacific Retail Capital Partners.
