A 16-year-old girl died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained during a sleigh crash in Niagara County, New York, authorities said.
Deputies responded to the report of a sleigh crash at Clyde L. Burmaster Park in Lewiston, about 30 miles north of Buffalo, around 10:14 a.m. Saturday.
Officers, according to the sheriff, tracked down the victims as a 16-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. Officers said the two were riding on a sled tube when they hit a tree at the bottom of the hill.
Rescue workers responded and provided medical assistance to the victims before being taken to John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.
According to the sheriff, the girl was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival, and the boy was treated and later discharged from the hospital. It was unclear how serious the injuries were.
None of the victims were publicly identified by police.
The accident is being investigated by the Lewiston Police Department and the sheriff in Niagara County.
The hill where the accident took place closed after the accident.
Lewiston is a small town of about 16,000 inhabitants.
