A 17-year-old girl died Sunday in a strong storm that swept through central Florida, damaging homes and businesses.
The woman was driving in Spring Hill, north of Tampa, when her car hit a cut-off power line, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The girl stopped and the car caught fire. She got out of the car and stepped on the power line, eliminating her. Her name was not released.
The storm brought heavy rain, strong winds, hail and lightning to wide areas of the state. In some areas, up to 2 inches of rain were reported, causing street flooding.

In Orlando, a house sustained serious damage when it caught fire after lightning struck it, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Some neighborhoods near Orlando called golf ball size.
In Lakeland, a hotel’s roof was damaged when it was partially torn down by strong winds. In Palm Harbor, north of Tampa, a bar’s roof was damaged by winds.
The storm limited a weekend of damaging weather across the country.
A Saturday storm damaged about 20 homes on the Gulf Coast of Florida and injured one person, officials said.
According to Manatee County Public Safety, the homes were damaged by direct winds on Saturday afternoon and not by a tornado, according to the Bradenton Herald. The force of the wind is not immediately known.
Five homes sustained major damage to the roof and one person sustained minor injuries, the National Weather Service said.
Earlier Saturday, possible tornadoes caused damage in the Panhandle.
In Panama City Beach, a possible tornado has leveled a home and convenience store, city officials said in a Facebook post. A resident’s photo posted by The Panama City News Herald shows how the roof and walls of the store were ripped off, but the counters, shelves and merchandise they had looked untouched. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

In Pensacola, the roof of a downtown brewery was ripped off by the storm, according to local news reports. The National Weather Service did not confirm whether it was caused by a tornado, but reported winds of up to 60 km / h.
