Teenager charged with alleged attack on BMW in mobile phone video

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday after footage appeared on social media showing a group of teenagers attacking a BMW SUV parked at an intersection in New York City.

According to police, the incident occurred Tuesday around 4 p.m., according to a local NBC News affiliate.

A 36-year-old man, who asked to be identified as Max, apparently drove the SUV to the intersection and stopped to let the group pass. The group then allegedly started attacking the vehicle, smashing the side mirrors, smashing the driver’s window and throwing a bicycle into the car’s hood.

The New York Police Department has arrested a 15-year-old man in connection with the incident on charges of rioting and criminal disorder. Officials said they identified others present during the attack, and that they were also working to carry out other arrests.

Max told the outlet he and his mother were in the vehicle during the attack and they were afraid for their safety.

“I said let’s destroy the car, let them vent their anger on the car, we are safe in the car,” he told NBC News.

The group eventually fled the scene after causing about $ 250 damage to the vehicle, according to the outlet.

“How no one noticed that 50 bikes were running through large intersections along Fifth Avenue, and warned someone to try to prevent it,” Max said. “Where have we failed in society to get them to that point and what can we do to put things right.”
