Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge

If you were a child in America during the last decade of the 20th century and you ever entered an arcade with a few quarters burning a hole in your pocket, you may have one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games. The original side-by-side film began in 1989 and its sequel, Turtles in time, appeared in 1991. Now, decades later, we’re about to get another sequel on the page in the same style Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Check out the new trailer below.

That cover of the theme song feels a bit tense, doesn ‘t it? It sounds like a disgruntled Dad band, but Polygon points out that it was actually performed by Mike Patton of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame. Apologies to Patton and all the Bungle heads out there; the original theme song performance is so ingrained in my head that I probably have to brush up on any cover of it, not just this one.

Anyway, this four-player co-op comes from publisher Dotemu and game developer Tribute Games. Two of Tribute’s key figures, Jonathan Lavigne and Justin Cyr, previously worked on the big Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game side-scroller, which had similar dynamics, so it should be a satisfying return experience. Especially for people who, like me, have pumped an obscene number of quarters into the classic TMNT arcade games when they visit their local pizza parlor, hide in an Aladdin castle in the mall before watching a movie, or attend a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese’s. Lavigne and Cyr also previously worked on the 2007 TMNT game for Game Boy Advance, so they have an established history with this franchise.

Here is the official summary:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge unites Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello to kick their shell in a beautifully realized pixel art world that evokes the classic 1987 design of the turtles. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge finds the turtles struggling through a breathtaking tour through iconic TMNT locations to thwart their nemes’ most diabolical plan to date. Armed with shocking new abilities, built on a base of classic fighting, the gang is engaged in an exciting, foot-clamping lead that leads them through the sewer and bustling neighborhoods of New York City to Dimension X.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will be available on PCs and consoles, but no launch date has been announced yet.
