Ted Cruz jokes about Cancun trip amid a storm in Texas

Sen. Ted Cruz joked about his trip to Cancun amid a crisis storm in Texas last week, which resulted in icy temperatures, widespread power outages and burst pipes that flooded homes.

On Friday morning at the Conservative conference for political action, Cruz (R-Texas) made the remarks as he kicked off his speech.

“God bless CPAC,” the Texas senator began, “I must say, Orlando is wonderful. It’s not as delicious as Cancun, but it is. ‘

The remark was laughed at and laughed at by the crowd.

The event, which was moved from Washington, DC, to Orlando, Florida, due to coronavirus restrictions, began Friday morning with remarks from Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida.

Cruz is pursuing damage control following the scandal, which erupted after he was caught flying with his wife and two daughters, ages 10 and 12, to the Mexican resort town, days after Texas was paralyzed by a one-time winter storm. .

He had to cut short his journey, fly back home the next day and issue a mea culpa.

Cruz was scrutinized over the optics of the mini-holiday – and because he left the family pool, Snowflake, alone at home without power or heat.

“Apparently I fed Snowflake to the wolves,” Cruz said, shaking off the setback. “He was at home with a dog sitter. The heat turned on again. The whole thing is a little absurd. ”

He also said that his wife, Heidi, was ‘angry’ that texts indicating her inviting neighbor friends during the family’s trip had been leaked to the media.

During his fiery CPAC speech, Cruz also addressed former House Speaker John Boehner, who made headlines Thursday after an Axios report revealed that he had offered the Texas senator an explicit message in his new book .

“Oh, and Ted Cruz, go himself,” Boehner reportedly said as a side issue in the audiobook recording of his upcoming song.

The message was not written in the text of the book, entitled “On The House: A Washington Memoir.”

It appears that Boehner addressed the report in a tweet on Thursday, where he wrote: ‘Pour me a glass of something nice to read my audiobook. You can blame the wine for the expressions. ”

The tweet contains a photo of the former speaker of the house sitting at a microphone with a glass of wine in hand.

“You know yesterday, John Boehner made news. He suggested that I do something that is anatomically impossible. To which my answer was: Who is John Boehner? ”
