It will be difficult for Donald Trump to create his own social media platform if it is banned by Apple and Google from services that have monopolized the market, Michael Rectenwald, author and professor of liberal studies, told RT.
“The App Store and Google Play are definitely important obstacles for any other platforms that Trump will have as a key feature,” says Rectenwald, who was a professor of liberal studies at New York University.
Technological oligarchs have a way of boxing people outside the public square. They also share profiles of all users and ensure that certain users do not have access to the entire range of platforms.
“It’s not the end of the day for Trump unless he has no platform left. And that is exactly what they are trying to do … It is politically motivated censorship, ” Rectenwald said.
The scholar noted that giants on social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, were given An edge ‘ by the government “This has enabled them to completely monopolize the market.”
‘The government has in part given them special privileges. The state has released them to be treated as publishers, and yet they act like publishers and editors. ” he said.
At the same time, some of Trump’s supporters are now distancing themselves from the outgoing president, because his name was “Destroy” by the dramatic storms of the Capitol.
“Right now, the name ‘Donald Trump’ is really something you do not want to associate with at all,Said Rectenwald.

In a series of tweets that have since been removed from the official @POTUS account, Trump said he is studying “The possibilities to expand our own platform in the near future,” and promised he would not be “Silenced.”
On Saturday, Google suspended the social network Parler from its Play Store, citing its failure to remove it “Serious content.” Parler was founded in 2018 and has become popular among conservative users, including Trump supporters.
BuzzFeed News quotes an email from Apple threatening to remove Parler from the App Store unless moderated Offensive content on its platform. “It appears that the app is still being used to plan and facilitate further illegal and dangerous activities,” Apple is quoted.
Parler CEO John Matze confirmed to Reuters that Apple had threatened to remove the social media platform from the App Store unless the content modification policy changed.
“We will not like the politically motivated companies and the authoritarians who hate freedom of speech!” Matze wrote on Parler.
