Teammates Bowman and Byron start Daytona 500 in the front row

The drivers of Hendrick Motorsports, Alex Bowman and William Byron, swept the front row in the Daytona 500 qualifier on Wednesday night, which secured the team the sixth position in the last seven runs of the game.

Bowman took first place with a lap of 191,261 mph to grab his second Daytona 500 pole.

“I think it means a lot to Mr. H – he wants to win everything, like every category, he wants to be at the top of the list,” Bowman said. “Here it actually comes down to who built the fastest race car. And I think it’s important for Hendrick Motorsports to come forward and prove that it’s them who did it.”

Bowman’s Chief of Staff Greg Ives has put one of his cars on the front row for five of the consecutive years, dating back to Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2017. Ives has never started a car lower than the third since becoming a Cup member in 2015.

“We put a lot of time and effort into our highway program. It’s a show car. It’s the pinnacle of the hotrods we bring from our race shop,” Ives said. “There’s a lot of pride in every piece, every car, just from the paint job to the last nut and bolt.”
