Team17 acquires full golf with your friend’s brand for £ 12 million

Golf with your friends was a hit among players last year. Although we did not have the strongest opinions about it – it gave 6/10 stars – we thought it would provide a decent minigolf multiplayer game, although one that suffers from poor control. It was apparently a success for publishers Team17, who have now bought the rights and assets of the game for £ 12 million from developer Blacklight Interactive.

Golf With Your Friends’ purchase will be divided into two segments, consisting of an initial payment of £ 9 million, followed by a further £ 3 million after 12 months. Team17 spoke directly about this and unveiled plans to ‘create additional opportunities to extend the life cycle of the existing game’. This includes further DLC, with a possible sequel also being investigated.

During this announcement, Team17 also shared its financial results for 2020 and advised that it was “above expectations” and saw a 34% increase.

Team17 CEO Debbie Bestwick had this to say about the news:

We are delighted to start in 2021 with the announcement that we have acquired GWYF and that we can see great potential in this IP. Over the past two years, GWYF has shown strong consumer demand and a large market application, doubling its ownership base and achieving success on various gaming platforms.

GWYF is the type of IP we believe is right for ownership; it is successful and proven, but still at the beginning of its journey. The team at Blacklight Interactive can be assured that we care about this amazing IP.

Just what Team21 will bring in 2021 has yet to be seen, but we are definitely excited to see what they have in store.
