Taylor SwiftThe experiment with her old songs seems to be fruitful outside the gate – the early numbers are in for the first song of the big bundle ahead, and they are not too bad.
Billboard documented the one-day download and radio play data that has come in since Taylor released ‘Love Story (Taylor’s Version)’ on Friday … the original, re-recorded mega-hit of her in a long series she’s releasing again spread.
Based on the figures, things are going well … especially compared to the AG on the same day (12 February 2021). Billboard reports that MRC Data for February 12 shows that Taylor’s new version has been downloaded 10,000 times, compared to just 200 downloads for the 2008 track.
Here’s a radio play element that has yet to be fully worked out – Billboard notes that Taylor’s new ‘Love Story’ (which sounds almost identical to the old one) has not received much pressure from her team to play on. . radio … but a handful of stations across the country blew it up on Friday – and even the numbers are greater than the AG’s statistics on the same day.
“Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” received 144 audio plays under 89 stations on Friday, compared to the original … which received only 67 plays on Friday. “Love Story” from 2008 is still king (for now) – as we know, it has risen in the charts over time – so Tay-Tay has a way to go before her new version comes close. Still pretty promising early signs of what’s coming.
Remember, Taylor does it to keep it Scooter Braun and other executives who came manage her catalog since she left Big Machine Records and settled at UMG. She could not get the rights to her masters, and decided to claim it back to record all her hits again.

The catalog is now in the hands of a private equity group – and Scooter has made a bundle in the sale – but TS is still going strong. She teases the refreshing ‘Love Story’ in a Match.com ad featuring Ryan Reynolds, and there was hardly any noticeable difference … which led many to believe that her other re-recordings would follow.
