One of the more beautiful themes in Taylor Swift’s music is how she explores her relationship with her mother, Andrea Swift. In a new lyric video for one of the songs, we take a look at her personal life with rare family photos that show us the loving nature of this bond between mother and daughter.
In the song ‘The Best Day’, Swift (31) recounts her relationship with her mother, specifically the different days spent in her company at different ages. This nostalgia is currently being revisited because Swift has just re-recorded her second album, “Fearless”. All the songs get accompanying lyric videos, and in the montage for ‘The Best Day (Taylor’s Version)’ we see vintage video clips and throwback photos screaming just the nineties.
“I do not know why all the trees change in autumn, but I know you are not afraid at all,” she sings. “I do not know if Snow White’s house is near or far, but I know I had the best day with you today.”
At the end of the lyric video, we see photos of Taylor and her mother of old, showing that their loving bond extends into Swift’s maturity.
In 2011, Swift began about the inspiration for the song for Taste of Country. “I remembered all the times we had when she was my only friend when I was 13 and I could not understand why my friends were so bad with me,” she said.
“She would just take me on these adventures and we would drive around and go to towns we had never seen before,” Swift continued. “Those adventures and those days of just running away from my problems – you’re not supposed to run away from your problems, but when you’re 13 and your friends will not talk to you and they move when you sit down at the dinner table , and your mother lets you get away from those problems, I think that’s a good thing … My mother was my escape in many ways. ‘
This is not the first time Swift has paid tribute to their mother with her music.
On Swift’s 2019 album ‘Lover’, she honors Andrea with a moving song called “Soon You Will Get Better” in which she reveals about how her family handled her cancer diagnosis. “We as a family have decided to put it on the album, and it’s something I’m so proud of, but it’s just very difficult,” she said during a 2019 YouTube Live Event. “I can not sing it. It’s hard to just deal with that song emotionally. ”
Swift sings in the ballad, “And I hate it to make everything about me / but who am I supposed to talk to? / What should I do? / If there is no you.”
Her mother’s cancer returned in 2019 after she was initially treated in 2015, Swift writes in an essay for Elle magazine.
“It taught me that there are real problems, and then there is everything,” she writes. ‘My mother’s cancer is a real problem. I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all my worries, tensions and prayers to real problems. ‘
In January 2020, Swift revealed that her mother is not only being treated for breast cancer, but that she is also a brain tumor.
