Target penalty against Clemson who injured Justin Fields, Ohio contestants

A goal-scoring penalty against Clemson’s linebacker James Skalski in the second quarter of a College Football Playoff semifinal against Ohio State left fans dazed and upset.

Skalski came like a heat-seeking rocket into a scrambling Justin Fields with five to five left in the first half. On his tackle, Skalski leans into the Fields’ back with the crown of his helmet. The Ohio State quarterback was down for a few moments while his officials reviewed the play.

Officials have determined that Skalaski should be penalized for targeting, which is an automatic ejection.

Two plays later, the state of Ohio extended its lead to 28-14 when Fields came back into the game and fired a shot to Chris Olave. Fields then came off the field with obvious pain.
