Despite the fact that GTA 6 has not even been officially announced, it is perhaps one of the most anticipated games of all time.
Before that though, we can expect to see some remasters of current games.
But according to Take-Two Interactive, it’s more than just ports.
A quiet generation
In terms of new titles, the last generation was very quiet for Rockstar, with Red Dead Redemption 2 as the only major new game released.
Instead, we saw a series of ports being released, including GTA V and Bully.
If the current rumors are true, we can expect more of the same from this generation as well.
Hawens, Hawens, Hawens
At a PS5 showcase event last year, it was revealed that GTA V will get a next-generation port in 2021.
This will mean that GTA V will span three generations, after being released on the Xbox 360 / PS3 in 2013, before being transferred to the PS4 / Xbox One in 2014.
It’s been more than seven years since the first release of GTA V, and despite many rumors, Rockstar has never released an official GTA 6 confirmation, and we can wait much longer for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series . .
In addition to the next generation GTA V gateway, there are currently rumors that we will see a gateway from the 2010 Red Dead Redemption, as well as the remasters / remakes of the classic GTA trilogy, GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas that were originally the PlayStation 2 was released in the early 2000s.
Rockstar is also working on a brand new IP, so although it seems like a busy generation for Rockstar, so far it does not look like all their plans to include GTA 6.
More than just a port
At the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, gave some insight into the mindset of businesses regarding remasters and what to expect from the GTA V remaster for the next generation of consoles expect.
“Remastering has always been part of the strategy. We did differently than the competition – we not only transfer titles, we actually take the time to do the best work, but we can make the title different for the new version., for the new technology we are introducing. ‘
He then discussed the process for the remasters and said:
“So, we improve the technology, we upgrade the footage, and we improve performance, and that’s why I think our transferred titles usually do so well.”
Zelnik discussed the conclusion that CTA V had over the previous two generations.
‘We’ve done well with the Mafia series, for example, and Grand Theft Auto V is now working on its third generation, which is incredible. It was a standard carrier when it was launched, it was still the standard carrier in the second generation. We’ll see how Grand Theft Auto performs in the next generation. Of course, I’m confident that Rockstar is just going to deliver a great experience, but you can not do that if you just do a simple port. ”
So far, a release date for the next generation GTA V remaster has not been set, only we know that it will be released in 2021.
Autumn / winter 2021 seems likely, as this is when most major titles are introduced.
We will probably get an official release date in the coming months, possibly by late spring / early summer when E3 2021 is due to take place.
The live E3 conferences and events have been canceled, but the show continues as an all-digital event, which is good news. It was canceled last year and left a void for many fans who look forward to it every year.
What it all means for CTA 6
Considering what Zelnik said during the conference, and the current rumors surrounding future remasters, it looks like Rockstar has their hands full for the predictable, meaning it’s unlikely we’ll see GTA 6 anytime soon.
The current release date is said to be end 2023; it has been reported that Take-Two Interactive has set aside about $ 20 million for marketing in 2023, which is a large amount reserved only for major releases, such as a CTA. games.
The release window still leaves enough time for Rockstar to complete all of their remasters.
GTA V is scheduled to release later this year. It is also reported that another development team is in charge of the PS2 trilogy remasters, which are freeing Rockstar.
And if the RDR remaster takes place, it’s likely to be done by another studio as well, or at least by another Rockstar subdivision, which will release Rockstar North to focus on GTA 6.
So if the 2023 release date is true, we could have enough Rockstar games over this current generation.
